Maria Aloupi

composer, pianist, director of Centre for Music Composition & Performance (Athens-Greece)

Born in Athens. Studied piano and theory in Athens (diploma) and piano lessons in Munich with Hallina Alberth. She has given several recitals and chamber music concerts as a pianist in Greece. Since 2002 she has presented her works as a composer in concerts and New Greek Composer’s festivals.
She teaches piano and theory in several conservatories in Athens. During 2002-2005 she developed a teaching method concerned with the development of the acoustical-center of children between three and a half and six years of age. Since 2005 she has focused on a course called “Basic Principles of Composition” (for adults students). This course is based on observation through the acoustical-center and on practical exercises - harmony, counterpoint, phonetic and instrumental applications and composition in different historical musical styles (baroque, classicism, romanticism). In 2006 she became the artistic direction of “Centre for Music Composition and Performance” in Athens.
